A family business built on trust, hard work, and determination.

After 20 years working in various roles for HomeTown Tax & Accounting, Carrie Jo & Terry Howard made it their own on January 1, 2001. The team then went on to steadily build it into what it has become today – a thriving family owned business with locations in Strathcona and Moorhead, MN.

Carrie Jo Howard began her career as a Tax Accountant during the 1979 tax year, working first for H & R Block. After four years working there, she left to work for a financial institution closer to home. She also began moonlighting, doing tax on her kitchen table for Karen Nelson of Greenbush Fastax.  

When Karen moved her office and changed her name to HomeTown Tax, Carrie Jo kept right on working for her, finally leaving the banking world and moving in-house with Karen in 1999.  

Carrie Jo and her husband Terry purchased HomeTown Tax from Karen in 2001 and began to add accounting services, structuring the business into a year-round accounting firm. Even though Karen has since retired, she still stops by for lunch. The business has grown and now has several employees, including family members who have pursued accounting careers.
